ORPL Survey Suggests Recycling Significant For Consumers

Recycling happens to be a priority for consumers in spite of the cost-of-living situation, as per novel research done by the On-Pack Recycling Label- ORPL.

As per this survey that took into account more than 5000 respondents across Great Britain, 68% opined that recycling is as significant or at times more crucial than ever before. Apart from this, 58% of consumers are looking for recycling information when they arrive to dispose of packaging. Around 80% said that it was pivotal that the labels on the packaging follow a consistent graph.

Margaret Bates, who happens to be the executive director of OPRL, states that confusing information has a direct impact on the volume of packaging that’s recycled.

As per her, their survey showed that 42% of the respondents who are not sure on recyclability will always take a guess, which means that the items happen to get placed in recyclable containers, where they can go on to contaminate the entire recycling stream.

Another 22% of the respondents opined that when they are not sure, they opt for not recycling at all. In both scenarios, potential recyclable packaging is getting lapsed for want of crystal-clear information.

Consumers also said that they were looking for a common labelling system that thwarted doubts, while 38% agreed with the fact that they do not believe that all packaging that makes claims of being able to get recycled is actually recyclable.

Notably, charities as well as independent organisations ranked highest in terms of trust as far as recycling label production was concerned. They were followed by governmental organisations, and finally, businesses. Bates was also of the opinion that the fact that recycling happens to be significant to consumers is indeed a reason to celebrate.

If they are to harness this enthusiasm, they have to make sure that the consumers are being given the right information in a format that is easy for them to understand.
