Kao Industrial (Thailand), packaging company SCG Chemicals (SCGC), and Dow Thailand Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create packaging with recyclability features.
Under the terms of the partnership, packaging for Kao brands will be designed and produced using advanced technology and new materials.
According to Dow, these changes will result in a reduced carbon footprint and easily recyclable packaging. The collaboration is intended to give customers access to more sustainable packaging choices.
The new packaging will be applied on both flexible (bag) and rigid (bottle) packaging, both of which will continue to have superior qualities to safeguard the contents and offer customers convenience, said Dow.
Kao Thailand president Yuji Shimizu said: “Kao is delighted to partner with leading chemical companies such as SCGC and Dow to joint develop innovations for sustainable packaging based on the 4R principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Replace, which align with our ESG strategy or what we call the ’Kirei Lifestyle Plan.
“Kao is committed to achieving Zero Carbon Emission by 2040 in an effort to help mitigating global warming and climate change issues. This is why our business is seriously focused on energy conservation within our production plants and products design and development throughout product lifecycle to reduce carbon emissions.”
Kao is a Japanese consumer goods producer with brands like Attack, Biore, Haiter, Laurier, and Magiclean. In the near future, the firm plans to employ new, environmentally friendly packaging for a variety of its products in Thailand.
The partnership is expected to help Kao in achieving its sustainability goals, which include achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Additionally, it aligns with SCGC and Dow’s aim to lessen environmental impact and leverage innovation to provide Thai customers with more sustainable options.
Dow Thailand president Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai said: “We are pleased to support Kao in the design and development of flexible packaging with key sustainability benefits.
“With our expertise in Thailand and Dow Pack Studio in Singapore, combined with our innovative plastics such as INNATE, ELITE, DOWLEX, and Dow PCR (REVOLOOP), we will help Kao develop packaging bags designed for recyclability that reduce the impact on the environment and meet the needs of consumers.”
