Ardagh Metal Packaging to build facility in Northern Ireland

Irish beverage can manufacturer Ardagh Metal Packaging (AMP) has announced plans to invest $200m to build a production facility near Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Located at Global Point, the facility will cater to increasing demand for beverage cans from customers in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

The investment forms part of the firm’s larger multi-billion dollar investment strategy, through which it aims to strengthen its recyclable metal packaging capacity in North America, Europe and Brazil.

AMP has not specified the number of jobs to be created at the facility, but the investment is expected to generate several full-time positions, including engineers and technicians.

The company is engaging with stakeholders in the region for the project, which is currently in the pre-planning application stage.

Further details are expected to be announced in the coming months.

AMP CEO Oliver Graham said: “This exciting project is an important part of AMP’s global investment programme.

“We are delighted to be investing in Northern Ireland supporting our clients’ sustainability needs and further reducing our carbon footprint by locating capacity closer to our end customers.
