Nordic Cold Chain Solutions has added a new testing chamber to develop its packaging research and product development capacities.
The chamber is equipped with precise temperature control and enables the testing of packaging solutions in a controlled environment to simulate real-world conditions. The equipment also increases throughput of shipper development and tests for temperature maintenance.
The company aims to leverage the testing chamber’s capabilities to develop customised packaging solutions that meet the needs of key industries including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and food and beverage.
Nordic Chain Solutions CEO Andy Bolton commented: “We will continue to strategically add to our existing product testing technologies and lab capabilities to ensure that our packaging solutions consistently deliver quality and reliability.”
Temperature-controlled packaging is an global area of rapid innovation and wide application, from condiments brand Hellmann’s developing a smart temperature jar to protect refrigerated food, to Sonoco launching recyclable temperature-controlled packaging for life science companies.
Additionally, sensors within connected packaging are becoming increasingly popular to monitor the temperature and condition of packs’ contents and minimise heat transfer. These can be applied to labels as well as containers.
Such innovations were driven by the pandemic as governments needed temperature-controlled packaging solutions to transport medical supplies to healthcare facilities.
